The October in the Garden 2021 - UBC Botanical Garden is up now. It's like Douglas knew it would be rainy and we'd be busy - there are not as many plants to see as in the previous two months, and they're close or relatively close to the entrance. Even so, I'm cheating here, because I took these photos last month. The Kirengeshoma palmata on the south side of Upper Asian Way (left side as you enter the garden) had flowers at the time, no fruits yet. Across the path are Kirengeshoma palmata Koreana Group, which had just a few flowers left, but lots of fruits that remind me of the Sputnik satellite. The fruits and flowers on these are usually a week or two ahead of the Japanese selection. Nearby, Rosa × odorata 'Mutabilis' are still blooming. and just behind them is a very very large kiwi vine, Actinidia deliciosa.
