i use coconut coir regularly for all my plants! the edible plants have a far sweeter flavour, and the medicinal plants yield higher weight. its a wonderful additive to any organic program.
coconut coir can be purchased year round at any hydroponic store, and they are everywhere! its sold in blocks usually, they look very small until soaked in water, then they explode!! be sure to get a lg Tupperware, about 10 gl to contain the remainder. i use a 1/5 ratio coconut coir to soil. works well, good luck finding what you need.
hydroponic stores are a wonderful untapped resource for the serious gardener, higher quality plant food, lights, soil, soiless mix and advice. these guys truly know their stuff!

I have block of coir - I bought it from a garden center and haven't used it yet. I'm willing to sell it to you if you want it - PM me. I'm in the Vancouver area.

If one block is not enough check out craigslist. There are places that dismantle mattresses for recycling. They offer cocofibre mats. I picked up a large bag from Annacis Island last year. They used to be free but I recall seeing recently that there is a small fee.

my husband just bought a brick, for $7.99, here on salt spring at home hardware, 3cu.ft. in one brick ( they also carry it year round, but the hydroponic stores guarantee ALL soil, soil additives and grow medium to be free of defect, bugs, mould spores and pests of every kind) this company is NATURA and the product is called BEYOND PEAT. its an earth care product...
i feel the need to mention i dont actually use soil...as my previous post states, i use sunshine mix, which is soiless mix. has no nutritional value, dries quickly, and in my humble opinion is the best growing medium available today. although it is considered hydroponic growing medium, it is not necessary to change your reg plant food.
you can find your closest hydroponic store in the yellow pages....cheers

    This may be strange..
But I'm still looking for some..

Since spring is here I may have better luck ..
I don't really wanna travel told far as my car drinks gas like fish"drinks" water

Tbh I'm using it for pet tarantulas.. So the mix has to be "clean" and do t have chemical contaminants
So basically I need it ALL the time

Over called all the hydroponic stores in Richmond and they don't know what it is.
I called Home Depot and Rona and they don't know what it is either..
I'm not sure why I'm having issues.. I haven't gotten any for a almost 2 yrs as the last time I bought it was at Canadian tire and they had a sale on them so I stocked up.

Now it seems to be harder to find

Well anyways if anti e spots any near or in Richmond BC please let me know

Thanks everyone who have posted earlier

Tried searching on CL but I didnt see anything
Maybe I'm looking for the wrong thing? Searched coco fibre, matress, recycling

West Coast Seeds in Ladner also sells big blocks of coconut coir. If you can't make it out to Ladner, you can mail order it too. They sell two sizes of blocks; the larger one looks like it is more of the whole, fibrous coir, whereas the smaller block looks like it is powdered coir. I'm guessing you would need the more fibrous type.
