Has anybody in the forum familiar with Rocky Mountain fungi ever see Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) in that area, especially in the southern reaches?

i think it showed up a few times at the annual fair. Know birch, know Chaga. No birch, no Chaga.

For anyone interested, there were some very interesting & multiple articles in the recent FUNGI magazine, the Chaga issue. Interesting in general, but also clearly a good resource for those interested in identification and so forth.

Are there birch trees in the Rockies?

    cheers

Ah, another Fungi reader! Check out my article in the most recent edition (puffball toxicosis).

Several species of birch in CO, just not that common.
