Today at a nursery I picked up a maple that was tagged as a bloodgood but was definitely not. Any help I could get in IDing it would be most appreciated.

    Thanks,

Looks like a Shin Deshojo or similar.

My wife thought it might be deshojo after looking through Vertrees, so i guess I have to tell here she might be right....Now she will hold it over my head for a while.
    Thanks

Tell her to be careful: that book is fairly heavy.

You should be safe from spousal gloating, :) it's not Deshojo. That one stays more red. Shin deshojo (or similar!) is a different maple.

In Northern Ireland at this time of year Shindeshojo would be a vibrant pink. One of the reasons why it is well nigh impossible to guide someone looking for a name for a plant unless you have inside knowledge of all the surrounding facts
