Since (no damp) is no longer avalable I was wondingering if someone out there has a receipe for a substitute. I find some seeds will not survive for me without it thank you marie
I've had great success with Lamisil drops, which I'm able to get at my local chemists (drug store) over the counter. I have no idea if it's even available in that presentation in Canada, though.
hmmm... i know i'm about to feel very silly, but i have to ask. ...what on earth is "no damp"? thanks.
A fungicide to control damping-off diseases in cuttings and seedlings. An Isopropanol solution containing 2.5% Ozine Benzoate.
When I germinate seed which is not to often because of time restrictions i will soak the seeds in a solution of hydrogen peroxide and water(1 teaspoon to 1/2 cup of water) to remove any lingering bacteria on the seeds. Then I plant them in sterilized soil or sand this seems to reduce the chances of fungus growing around the seedlings.
Island gardener, I just soak the seeds with a couple of drops of the solution before planting; it's a pre-mixed liquid.
Chammomile tea! It really works great for this. Use the 100% chammomile kinds, no other ingredients. Mix it at the same concentration you would drink it, or even a little weaker is ok, and put it in a small spray bottle after it cools.
I too am dismayed when I lose a flat to dampening off. A friend of mine recommended a strong brew of camomile tea used the same as No-Damp. I tried it last year and I never had any dampening off, however that may just because I always sterilize everything and use good quality starting mixes although that has not always stopped it in other years. I am using it again this year and will try and keep posted about it.
and clean hands. I realized that this morning as I was smoothing out a planting bed with my fingers (as usual) and realized I could be transfering spores or anything else.
I'm glad I read this thread! I've had constant problems with damping off in my chile seedlings. I'm going to try the camomile tea method.
