Well here it is near the end of October in Ontario. I've had my jade for over 30 years and never saw a bloom - never expected to. I was shocked this morning when for the first time I saw it is covered in blossoms about to burst!. It was outside all summer under a North wall where it got only late afternoon sun. I brought it inside near the beginning of October. It is now in an East window with only morning sunlight. I even have a small branch that had broken off and layed on the ground all summer that I just brought in this week and even it has blossoms on it.
Wow! Congrats, Ontarian! What a thrill. And I thought I waited a long time for my one cattleya to bloom (about 6 years). Please post a photo of this plant and its flowers! And, welcome to the Forum.
that is absolutely wonderful!!! they have such pretty flowers - i have a long, long, long wait for mine to bloom (none are bigger than 6 inches tall). please post some pics!!!!!
Dear Ontarian, Please do post a picture, if you can. I left a "Mexican jade bonsai" behind when I moved, and never got to see it flower. Many grateful thanks! Sincerely, Ann Browning
Isn't it a surprising thrill! I have 16-18 jades, all descendants of one given to me as a housewarming gift in 1982. Brought them all in about 3½ weeks ago and also saw my first blossoms ever on one of them that it "middle-aged" among the group. It's probably 12-15 years old. Kurt in Chicago
Welcome, Havanai!---and congratulations on your jade success. We would all enjoy seeing any and all photos of your plants, too!
Well, its been a good month and the blossoms are finally opening up a bit. I'm not one to keep turning plants; so the blossoms were all stretching for the window. I turned the plant around so that I could get these pics.
Ontarian, thank you for posting the pics. Those flowers are beautiful. Well worth a 30 year wait. Congratulations on having such a healthy plant.
the same with my plant, it's about about 10 years old, and had it's first flowers last winter, and many more these days. They'll be open in a couple of days. regards
Very nice! The cool weather might have had a hand in setting all those tiny buds before you noticed:)
Gorgeous!---both the fact of the blooming, and the flowers themselves. Thanks for posting these. If ever there was an illustration of how patience and good care pay off, your lovely jade is IT. Congratulations!
I do water it but sparingly; maybe once or twice @ month if that. Mine gets morning sun but not sure about darkness. There is a street light not far away at night. I also usually have lamps on nearby until bedtime. I don't think that matters as my guess is that the buds probably set once it experienced a few cool nights while still outside.
same with mine, very rarely watered in winter (only if the leafs crinkle/shrink alarmingly), bright place, but no direct sunlight. Bit of artificial light in the evenings, but dark at night, or just moonlight. It experiences cold night before I bring it in, as Ontarians plant.
