I have just built a large arbour and have one or two spots for table grapes..

Can someone tell me based on experience, which has been the earliest, sweetest, seedless, easiest table grape to grow in the lower mainland??

Also is it possible to buy a grape plant in a US nursery and bring it over the border?? is there a special procedure??

    Thanks a lot.

There are several nice grapes you can grow for the lower mainland for red seedless
try Vanessa, Canadice or Einset. For green seedless try Interlaken, Himrod, Lakemont,
Skookum or Sooke. For blue seedless try Coronation, Simone, Glenora or Jupiter.
There are a few others but I'm not sure of the availabilty. To import grapes from the US you need to get an import permit from CFIA. It's important to determine if the nursery you are ordering the plant from can ship to Canada.

    Cheers

Thanks a lot for the erudite response, Kim.

Between interlaken and himrod, is there one that is better??

Both are nice grapes Interlaken is earlier and has a pronounced labrusca taste. Himrod
is a nice flavored grape its big drawbacks are loose clusters and it shatters easily. It makes great raisins though. I think the 2 selections from Summerland Sooke and Skookum are far superior. If you can get either of these I would try planting them. They are some of the nicest temperate zone seedless grapes I've seen.

    Cheers

Think Welch's grape juice or concord grapes. Cheers

I have looked high and I have looked low.... after the exasperated looks from nursery staff, I have concluded none of them carry sooke or skookum grape vines

Do you know of ANY source that would sell me a cutting??

    Thanks again for your help
