Wow, what a fine unbelievable! I would grow it under the best controlled conditions possible. I would never put it outside until it was at least two, maybe 5 years old. Deer proof it, spouse proof it, take it with you on vacation.

Interesting fact, most nurseries spell it "Allen's Gold", but Pat McCracken (Garden Treasures Nursery), who introduced the variety, lists it as "Alan's Gold." I managed to get a few last year thanks to this little fact! lol. If it were spelled the same I'm sure he would have been sold out long before I found him.
Mine are just beginning to move into spring mode.

Here's an update. Definitely a beautiful cultivar so far! Even before the rough bark shows up.

We had this conversation in the Spring 2024 thread, but I figured I'd add this here as well.

I spoke with Pat McCracken this past week about the spelling for this cultivar. Here is his response: "It was named after Alan Galloway. Others have spelled it wrong."

Most know the cultivar as Allen's Gold these days, but maybe over time we can correct this.

So has a cultivar name been confirmed for Allen's Gold?
I would like to add this to the Synonyms list, as it is known by other names.

I don't know what your procedure is for this, but the man who introduced it says that it is spelled "Alan's Gold".

Thanks for the update Dan, not a problem, I do all the Synonyms lists.
I will use Alan's Gold as the cultivar name and Allen's Gold as the synonym.
