I bought a Yucca Cane Plant yesterday from Canadian Tire but I'm concerned, it looks as though there's roots coming off the top. I've looked online but haven't seen anything like it. The top of the trunk is black. Is this normal? If not is there anything I can do to save it?
    I've attached pictures.

The plant appears to be very healthy. The aerial roots are interesting; you could propagate the 'heads' with roots as individual plants if you wanted to. The black material is sealant that has been applied to prevent dessication of the stem. I suppose a possibility is the tree has been under-watered and the trunk is dying. Is the trunk somewhat soft and gives when squeezed? If it's still firm, then I would monitor the plant and stem for decline then decide whether to propagate the top.
