Young Gyromitra esculenta?

    Today, I found what appears to be a small cluster of False Morels, Gyromitra esculenta. The only reason that I'm not very sure of the ID is that the stems are quite dark, just about the same colour as the caps; and G. esculenta usually has light-coloured stalks. I suspect that dark stems are a feature of young specimens. Can someone confirm if that is the case? Thanks.

    I agree with your preliminary epitaph. I have noted these darker colors in older specimens, or ones that grow in open sunlight.
