Yet Another Reason to Bareroot at Planting

    The only container grown shrub I planted today that wasn't rootbound (there were one or two roots I did straighten out when setting it in the hole) was a witchhazel. However, it turned out to have weevils. I wouldn't have found this out if I had left all the soilless potting medium on the roots.

    Howdy Ron,
    I say Amen to bare root. See picture attached. I planted these poplars in a 2 gallon pots for three months before transplanting them into the field to demonstrate the foolishness of planting container grown trees without root pruning at planting. The trees were dug out two years after planting for the picture taking session.
