These yellow wildflowers were growing along the bank of the River Raisin in Monroe, Michigan. The photos were taken in late July 2014. Can you please help identify this for me?
There's not enough detail in the photos. The yellow flowers in the background look like they may be different plants from those in the foreground. Closeups of the flowerheads and leaves would be helpful. How tall are they? That said, they look similar to the wild mustards growing around here.
It looks like Brassica of some type. The leaves in the foreground are unusual if they are from the same plant. I'm not 100% about the identification though.
Black Mustard or Field Mustard generally don't grow in wetlands; however, that doesn't mean they will never be found in that type of environment. Of the two, Sinapis arvensis looks like the closest match. It's leaves can look like those you posted.
