I live adajcent to Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee, U.S.
There are few native shrubs and trees I don't recognize but this one has leaves that look very much like black locust but with upright bottle brush like clusters of purple flowers. Plume is 3-5" long and 3/4" across? Growing on forested slope along a lake.
