My college age daughter found a giant lemon in her college's nursery. We determined it to be a Ponderosa or wonder lemon. She planted the seeds and brought them home to NJ in summer 2009. Since then they have been my "lemon babies" We used soil for citrus and during the winder months I installed a grow light system I made for them. They are about 1-2 feet tall now. I am careful about not watering them too much. They get afternoon sun and I protect them if it is too cold, windy or raining too hard. Yet for all my obsessive efforts the leaves are starting to yellow-help! -Lemonmon
Buy some Citrus-tone or similar plant food apply sparingly and let your lemon spend the Summer on patio. Allow the rain to wash out any salt (fertilizer) or water treatment chemicals (Fluoride, Chlorine) from your soil. If the soil's become heavy due to decay of the organic fraction remove what loose soil you can and add expanded shale to ensure proper soil aeration. http://www.growsonyou.com/n2organics/blog/6067-how-to-dry-root-trees
Thanks for responding. They are outside now all the time now that it's warm.Do you suggest any special brand of fertilizer? When I do water them is it harmful to use tap water or should I let it set for awhile?
