Just found out I have what appears to be a "witches broom" in my ponderosa pine. The tree sits next to a birch tree which I understand may cause some infestation that leads to brooms.
If I cut down the birch, will the pine recover or should I try to have the broom removed? The birch gets an infestation of tent catepillars every year so I won't miss that tree; however, there is another birch in the backyard that also gets infested.
