I have a 7 ft. Acer palmatum 'Osakazuki' and noticed some unusual leaves on one branch. These have the characteristic "stubby" middle lobe. Is this the beginning of a Witches Broom on my 'zuki?!? See pics:
Interesting, my 'Osakazuki' also shows this on some of it's leaves this year. I just thought they were 'odd' leaves and gave it no more thought. Now I'm curious as to what others with much more experience in growing Japanese Maples than me might add. Great post and pics Kaitain4. Cirque
Yes I wouldn't get my hopes up too much on that I too have witnessed them here and there...having said that I can't help notice that the leaf shape in general differs from what I consider Osakazuki. I guess time will tell on that one.
I looked at the leaves of my Osakazuki and compared it to pictures on the Osakazuki thread here on the forum. The leaves look no different, as far as I can tell. Take a look...
