We've have a Wisteria tree that we ordered online from a catalog company in Ottawa around 8 or 9 years ago that is a tree, when it arrived it was only a bare stick l thought wouldn't grow. Up until this year it has done really, really well. When it was first planted it flowered 3 times a year. The past few years it had only flowered twice. But it still was great having that sweet aroma in our front yard. About 3 years ago we decided to put weed faberic with white gravel on top of it around the base. The other thing we had to do with this tree was constantly straighten it. We had left it for a year and early this spring had straighten it again. I am not sure what has happen but now it seems like the whole tree has died and I don't see any forms of insects on it. We never have used any fertilizer on it besides dried cow manure when we first planted it. The year before last we added Epson salts in the fall but nothing this winter. Our soil is only sandy. Any help would be appreciated.

What was the reason for adding sulfur and magnesium (Epsom salts) to your soil?

I was told to add the Epson salt to help the flowering. It helped the first year but I forgot to add it the next. My 91 year old cousin gave me the advice & I always trust anyone who has that much more experience than I. Plus their garden always looks great. Also all the other flowering trees & shrubs looked great that year and they are still all right.

Hello. When and how to add the EPSON salt mixed in water ? or direct on top or mixed into the soil around the top of the roots ? Thank you.
We have a very cool spring here in Vancouver and my Whisteria has done and show nothing
We have it for 3 years its 2m tall and the climbers are +- 2m long horizontally trained along a wall. Till now not one flower in three years only leaves its full south along a wall and warmest place in the garden.

My cousin told me to add a tsp or so dry in the fall when the leaves have dropped, I added it around the perimeter of the tree mixed in with our scented geraniums which are underneath it & also flower.

We have a very large old wisteria in White Rock. It is planted at the corner of our detached garage and grows on the south and west side of the garage. I never pamper it in any way. Have never fertilized. It gets rain if it rains. It gets soapy water through the gravel driveway if we wash the car. And it blooms profusely and grows profusely. It is in full bloom right now. I think that if I did no pruning to it for one summer it would literally cover the roof of the triple garage. I have heard it can take a number of years before they start blooming.
