What a nice treat was waiting on New Year's Day, still in a cold snap. I had not seen these beauties before but it was an easy ID with Trudell and Ammirati, who didn't have a picture of the wrinkled cap but mentioned it as a sometime feature. Cystoderma amianthinum. Said to appear in winter in California but also Vancouver Island it seems. ~ Mike
