Two days ago my young tree Peony completely wilted. I’ve had it for two years, and after doing some landscaping last year I put it in a pot to replant later. It did really well so I decided to keep it in the pot until I can create a new bed for it. It has been doing well -has three new buds and seemed healthy. Then all of a sudden it completely wilted, it’s all droopy. I panicked and gave it some water, slowly not to overwhelm but it seems to make no difference. No obvious brown spots or black spots on the leaves or stem. Any ideas what is going on? Or what I should be doing next?

Peony wilt is a possibility -- I would guess there's been some sort of rapid death of the young roots leading to a general water uptake problem.

These are the suggested methods: Peony wilt / RHS Gardening

For something woody, it usually can handle a year of defoliation and may even reinitiate foliage this year -- think plants that get browsed by deer or bears. But, I would really like to hear from gardeners with experience on this before going the route of removing the foliage...
