Will my japanese maple die if I pruned it in the spring?

I pruned my japanense maple a couple of weeks ago and it is not producing any new leaves except from the trunk. Is it going to die or become sickly? Thanks for any advice.

Not the best time to cut it, but as long as there isn't anthing else really wrong with it, it should be fine.
