Wildflowers: Wildflower ID from Solheimajökull Glacier, Iceland

    These orange flowers were photographed on Iceland's Solheimajökull Glacier in mid-July.

    Can anyone identify them for me?

    Hmm.. it's a closer photo, but still small. I'm not really seeing flowers. What is orange appears to be the discoloured and dying tissue of plants.

    Really? I feel pretty ignorant... I thought it was a flower, but you are right I think. Thanks for looking though.

    I could be wrong. Look into Empetrum as a possibility for the plant, though I'm not certain if leaf arrangement is entirely correct.

    Wondering if the yellow items might be Selaginella selaginoides spore cones?

    Compare e.g. here.

    Wow! Selaginella selaginoides looks just like it. I think that is a match. Thank you.
