Wildflower from southern NJ USA

    This was seen along the edge of a road near the saltmarsh. Am I correct that it is an orchid, and can anything more specific be deciphered here? The pictures do not show, but the leaves were alternate and there was no apparent hair or thorns on the stem if that helps. Thank you!

    More like something from the pea family, Fabaceae.

    Could be some Lathyrus.
    Go to page http://plants.usda.gov/core/profile?symbol=LATHY
    and click tab "SUBORDINATE TAXA", then check the Lathyrus species mapped to NJ - you can find something similar.

    Thanks so much!!
    Narrowed it down to Lathyrus palustris marsh pea
    I wasn't able to tell that it was vine-like and not wildflower-like myself
