They are probably very common and I think I found names for some, I would be glad to find names for unknown and confirmation for my identification 1.Desert shrub in bloom now 2.Desert shrub not in bloom now, smells like wormwood 3.I think this one is Tragopogon dubius These plants are from shadow forest 4.I have no idea what this can be 5.I think I have to know this flower but this is already a fruit 6.This one is from orchid family, I think Platanthera hyperborea, is this correct?
1) Ericameria (Chrysothamnus) nauseosa 2) if it smells like wormwood, probably an Artemisia 3) Yes, Tragopogon dubius, and introduced (so not a native plants thread ;-) ) 4) Valeriana sitchensis 5) Chimaphila umbellata subsp. occidentalis 6) Platanthera aquilonis, I am guessing from leaf width. P. hyperborea is a misapplied name.
I took name for Tragopogon dubius, western salsify from this booklet It looks native, was growing next to the road http://www.amazon.ca/Field-Coastal-Flowers-Pacific-Northwest/dp/1550174738
Invasive plants often do "look native", because they invade native ecosystems - which is what makes them damaging.
