Dear friends, could you please help me to learn what are the orchids that I found around Balaklava recently. I digged somewhat into Internet and believe I've found correct names for most of them but still unsure. http://balaklava.net/images/photoalbum/balaklava/medium/mv_Nic28238.jpg Orchis Morio subsp. Picta? is it correct to call it "Green-Winged Orchid"? http://balaklava.net/images/photoalbum/balaklava/medium/mv_Nic28280.jpg Orchis Purpurea aka Lady Orchid? http://balaklava.net/images/photoalbum/balaklava/medium/mv_Nic28298.jpg Orchis punctulata aka Punctate orchid? http://balaklava.net/images/photoalbum/balaklava/medium/mv_Nic28322.jpg Orchis Simia aka Monkey Orchid? http://balaklava.net/images/photoalbum/balaklava/medium/mv_Nic28329.jpg Cephalanthera longifolia aka Sword-Leaved Helleborine? http://balaklava.net/images/photoalbum/balaklava/medium/mv_Nic28965.jpg Comperia Comperiana aka Komper's Orchid, Comperia Taurica or Orchis Comperana? http://balaklava.net/images/photoalbum/balaklava/medium/mv_Nic28996.jpg Orchis Tridentata aka Three-Toothed Orchid? And for these I can not tell - are they just variations of Orchis Purpurea or are they something different: http://balaklava.net/images/photoalbum/balaklava/medium/mh_Nic28335.jpg http://balaklava.net/images/photoalbum/balaklava/medium/mv_Nic28613.jpg ? And finally, are these orchids at all: http://balaklava.net/images/photoalbum/balaklava/medium/mv_Nic29093.jpg http://balaklava.net/images/photoalbum/balaklava/medium/mv_Nic29095.jpg and http://balaklava.net/images/photoalbum/balaklava/medium/mv_Nic29119.jpg http://balaklava.net/images/photoalbum/balaklava/medium/mh_Nic29118.jpg ?? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Some very interesting plants - and nice to see a posting from Ukraine. If someone doesn't know these offhand, I'll see what a little digging for information from our library will turn up - it is likely we need to use print resources to confirm your tentative identifications.
I'm using Orchids of Europe by Aloys Duperrex as my reference. - Agree with Orchis morio subsp. picta (and yes green-winged orchid is okay, as is buffoon orchid(!)) - Agree with Orchis purpurea - Tentatively agree with Orchis punctulata - the book I'm using it doesn't have it. - Agree with Orchis simia - Agree with Cephalanthera longifolia - Tentatively agree with Comperia Comperiana - again, my book doesn't have it. - Tentatively disagree with Orchis tridentata - the side lobes of the bottom lip in your photograph is very rounded, not shown in images I've seen online or in this book. Not sure what to suggest as an alternative. - Variations of Orchis purpurea? Not sure, from what I've read, there is very little variation in colour, so it seems not. Again, not sure what to suggest as an alternative. - This one seems to be Muscari comosum before it forms its tassel at the top. - Don't know. Doubt it is an orchid. It resembles the other Muscari, but I wouldn't bet on me being right.
Thank you very much for your reply. Now I see that these last two ones are not orchids. As for Orchis Tridentata I have more pictures, maybe they will suit better into this? http://balaklava.net/images/photoalbum/balaklava/medium/mv_Nic29025.jpg http://balaklava.net/images/photoalbum/balaklava/medium/mv_Nic29024.jpg http://balaklava.net/images/photoalbum/balaklava/medium/mh_Nic29013.jpg http://balaklava.net/images/photoalbum/balaklava/medium/mv_Nic28998.jpg Thank you once again, Andrew
