wild flower plant id needed

    I photographed this plant after veering off a trail in upper adirondacks following a stream which it was growing along side of, I wondered what it was.

    Hard to tell by the picture...guessing a form of Hypericum.

    This plant is certainly not a Hpericum species but a plant from the sunflower family (Asteraceae). It might be some kind of Senecio or Solidago species but I do not know anything about New England flora. Therefore I am not even sure about the genus.
