I found this plant the other day while hiking on a mountain side in Tappen BC, and I've never come across anything like it in the past. It looks like a raspberry but I was unable to find it in any of the books available.....could it be Rubus leucodermis? Plant was only about 2.5 ft tall and growing in the open amongst some boulders.
Yes, those look like the native black raspberry. I see them regularly in rocky areas throughout southwestern BC. According to E-Flora BC, they are less frequent in south central BC but do occur there.
Key characters include the main leaves tending to be 3-parted, the fruits purple to nearly black, and the prickles usually being curved. As well as the stems being bloomy.
