Hello, this is my first post at UBC. I need help identifying this plant/berry. It was found on the north slopes of Mt. Magazine in Arkansas. It grows on a vine similar to grapes but much smaller and had very few leaves. What is it? Is it edible? Thanks.

Looks like a Smilax species - greenbrier is one common name - a forums search for [SEARCH]Smilax[/SEARCH] should have a few hits. This thread contains a photograph bearing a strong resemblance to yours.

I have camped on Mt. Magazine, which is the highest point in Arkansas, several times, but it has been awhile ago. I drove up there not long ago and they were making a State Park on it and building a big lodge. You might can get a checklist of plants from the State Park, or find someone there who is familiar with the plant.
