Why does my palm tree have a large hole in the trunk near the base?

    I believe my palm tree is a sabal palm. I live in NE FL and my tree seems to be growing and healthy except for a couple of things:

    It has a hole in the trunk near the base and it has stuff growing in it that reminds me of spanish moss or something like that.

    Looks healthy enough to me, I wouldn't fret about something like Spanish moss growing in the leaves.
