I have owned this tree for a few years and bought it from a sidewalk market.
does anyone know what kind of plant it is?

It also has recently developed a dust mite type of problem. Is there a way to rid the plant of this?

    Thank You.

Could be your beautiful plant has a spidermites problem.
Try an insecticidal soap made for houseplants, or, you can mix your own concoction using a couple of drops of a mild dish soap and water in a spray bottle. You'll need to spray the entire plant (cover soil) including under the leaves at least once a week for maybe three weeks or so and keep checking for a while. If you miss any of them, or any other of your plants has this pest, (they easily spread from plant to plant) they will come back.

    Thanks Bluewing.

I've been reading about that and wanted to make sure it was safe for this plant. How soon should I rinse off the soapy spray or is it ok to leave it since it's a small amount?

I mist all of my plants with water every couple of days to keep the mites away.

You can rince after the plant dries from the spraying.
