I noticed the "ends" of the branches on my Meyer lemon were shriveling up. There is a heavy white scale and it looks like a trail of white dried slime. It is only at the ends of the branches right now. I used citrus oil on it, but it doesn't look like it made any difference. The lemons are still attached and look ok. The rest of the tree looks ok except for the ends about 8 inches down the branch. Any idea? Miners? Thanks. A perplexed sour puss......
Sounds like miners. If you look close at trails that are pretty well developed you can see a small yellow larvae at the end of the trail or a folded section of the leaf where the miner has made a cocoon. Oil does not kill the miner--it only deters the adult from laying eggs on an oily leaf--you have to keep new flushes coated with oil, but you can't apply it when it is over 85F or after Sept (then it can prevent the tree from cold hardening).
