Identification: white mushroom

    In Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA, 7000 feet ASL. Growing under a forb, possibly Heterotheca zionensis (Zion false goldenaster). Spore print is dark brown

    Free gills, if i see them correctly, point to Agaricus. Agaricus bernardii grows in sandy soil, is stout, and just peeks up from the dirt like yours. But I wouldn't be confident IDing this one over the internet.

    I went back and took a sniff. They do smell a little briny, as the descriptions say. The soil is sandy and the specimens are indeed stout.
