Bought these two pines untagged two years ago, I thought they could be nigra or leucodermis based on needles resemblance, but I just realised (finally) the buds are white, which I guess is not characteristic to nigra and leucodermis...and I am pretty sure no other pine in my garden has white buds to compare to.

Also I guess if they are cultivars, it is impossible to tell which.

    Please help id them. Thanks

    Just Pinus mugo, I fear!

As an aside, Pinus leucodermis is a synonym of Pinus heldreichii.

    P. mugo is quite a variable species though, with several varieties and many cultivated forms. In the past I have found many P.mugo in the trade to actually be P. mugo var. mughus which remains more compact. P. mugo var. pumilio is also widely available but the foliage is normally smaller.
Your plant is quite young. I wouldn't know how to tell the difference between the varieties this early on. Any thoughts Michael?
