Okay, so now I have my Desert King fig tree in a 5 gal pot from the nursery. The more I read about figs, the more confused I'm getting. I had picked out a south-facing full sun spot in the yard, but not near a wall. I wanted it to have plenty of room to branch out, and not start sending roots under the house.

My questions.... do I keep it in a pot (move it to a larger one) so I can bring it in to the house in winter? I have seen adult trees in Vancouver, so clearly not everyone has to do this. Or, can I plant it now, in the ground, even though it's young and not worry about it?

If I plant it in the ground, should I be lining the planting spot with bricks or concrete tiles to contain the roots?

All recommendations very appreciated. Many thanks.
