In Houston, A. angustifolia would be better adapted than A. araucana which grows well in the PNW. I don't know where you would acquire one though?
I live in Houston and am also looking for a young monkey puzzle tree for a Christmas gift, because last year my potted norfolk pines (several years old) all froze and died, but my Monkey puzzle tree (also several years old, potted, grown in Houston) laughed at the cold. The heat hasn't seemed to bother it, either. It seems slightly drought resistant, in fact. So for all those scoffers, could you please just give us ideas where we might get the tree?
