Hi Everyone, There has been quite a number of posts on when to top seed etc. etc. but since it has been so dry the last couple of months and it looks to be staying dry - I am looking to get some feedback when would be a good time to seed some new lawn and to top dress? We are located out in the Langley area and have about an acre of lawn (and about 5 acres of pasture). When we moved here last year, there were a bunch of "holes" in the lawn and we have been slowly filling them in with topsoil and dirt over the summer. Right now, our lawn is BROWN as we are on well and have not been watering the lawn. We wanted to put down some grass seed in September but it has just be so dry. NOw it is getting cold - so cold and dry. In any case, lots of background so hopefully can give us some advice - should we just put some seed down and water - or should we wait until the rain starts to come? Is it too late now because of the cold? Thanks in advance. C
You have to water. The wet season does not get fully underway until November, at which time it starts off with a bang - the stormiest month of the year. Fall planting and transplanting projects intended to be completed while the soil is still warm probably really need to be done before then, as November is effectively the start of winter. In fact, it is the month during which the most notoriously damaging Arctic fronts have occurred, the last one in 1990.
