    Re: Loquat culture

We have grown a Loquat from a seed in a pot. It is about 7 or 8 inches high. How long should I keep it indoors before planting out?

Not fully hardy even in Seattle. You might want to continue overwintering it under cover until significantly larger, then plant out in spring. Must have a warm nook sheltered from cold North winds to be successful. Part of the requirement (for fruits to be produced and enjoyed) is that the developing fruits do not freeze, you want the mildest possible planting location.

I have had no success 800 ft above sea level in cool temperate yet down in the sand soil of the nearby city the parent plant used to be chock a block full of fruit. Needs warmth (hot summer) no frost . They also grew very quickly down there. Up here they are very slow and small.

Have just come i n from the drought breaking rain long may it flow
