I was just at the wonderful UBC plant sale and picked up the last Tropaeolum speciosum plant. There is a common reddish small leaved weed growing in the center of the pot, but no green palmate 6 lobed leaves which I am expecting. When does the plant normally sprout?

    For what it is worth:

    1. I bought one at last year's sale - I bet that. like me, you had to be one of the first in line - and it already had some leaves, but it did not grow very quickly. Mind you, it was more shaded than it should have been. And it did not flower for quite a long time. A few months, anyway: it had to grow until it was quite long before it started flowering.

    2. I kept it in my maybe-too-warm greenhouse over the winter. I say "maybe too warm" because inexplicably everything above ground died about a month ago. I think that the roots are - so, the plant is - still alive (hopefully this is not just wishful thinking), and a week ago I put it outside. Still nothing at all is happening though.
