Could someone please tell me when I can start to plant my veggies in the garden, Im dieing to get out there, but not sure if its to early in the year yet, thanks
I think it is time for the earliest things around here, potatoes, peas, carrots, beets, lettuce, greens - many "Asian vegetables" like cool weather. I always seem to miss the best planiting time. I am trying small batches every week or so to see if I have any luck. Seedlings can be started indoors now of course. Spring appears to be just around the corner. I started several things a few weeks back. Some of the carrots sprouted (poorly), lettuce and an Asian green (some brassicaceae who's name I can't recall) are doing OKl (I had germinated the plants indoors.) It is still early, but I just have to try. I think ideally, I would set up a nice cold frame. Many things can grow here now, but need a bit of extra warmth to really thrive.

Green and snow peas can go in now as well as radishes and onion sets. I would hold off on the potatoes and beets until mid April. Beans need to wait until the soil has warmed up so I usually plant them the beginning of June (and hope we don't get a wet cold month!) If you don't already have squashes growing inside, you might be able to get away with planting them outside in April as well.
I'm definitely not familiar with the climate in your area, so consider my comments a bit speculative or comparative-- but down here in the central Gulf Coast area we use to be a major potato growing area-- potatoes were planted in late Jan/early Feb and harvested in May/June. Sometimes the potatoes would get caught by a light frost after they were up a few inches, but they recovery quickly. I was told that if they did not get planted while it was still cold, they would put on a lot of growth, but not set any potatoes-- that may not be a problem in your area. Skeet
