For the first time in over 40 years of growing wonderful rhubarb our plant appears to be diseased. Picture 1 is what the plant looks like with gnarly hard red growths. Picture 2 shows a smaller growth on the root stock. Picture 3 shows the root stock on the underside of a broken off growth. Picture 4 is a close up. Has anyone had this before? We assume we must dig up this plant and dispose of it. Is this a soil-borne disease of some kind? Thank you to anyone who can help.
Very late answer, but I think it worthwhile comparing these against nematodes or root crown gall. https://phytopath.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/DPVCC-Chapter-17-rhubarb.pdf
