My japanese skimmia leaves are turning yellow and falling off. The whole plant is looking unwell. Is the ground too wet? There is a skimmia next to it that is doing fine (so far). Are skimmias difficult to grow on Vancouver Island? Is there anything I can do to save the plant?
You may be right. Dig around in the soil to look for clues such as a sodden condition or dustiness. If it has armillaria there may be bootlaces on the stems. If it has a water mold (Phytophthora) etc. not much may be visible except deterioration of roots (and top growth). Skimmia are basic garden center items in this region but like any other shrubs can have misfortunes.
