I have 3 Pyracantha's (red firethorn) on the north side of wooden fence in my south facing backyard which are getting rather twiggy looking with bare spots between the leaves. They're not as full as I expected them to get and perhaps they are not getting enough sun? They seem to be in the shade up until mid summer when the sun will hit the fence. Would be grateful for any ideas on a solution to get them healthier looking. Do they take well to transplanting elsewhere?

Might see some improvement with a different approach to pruning, might also be having some problems with something like pyracantha scab. Need to find out what your exact situation is before it can be addressed, including determining if there is, in fact, anything abnormal happening.
