I've planted a row of 6 velvet green boxwood in the front of my house, hoping to form a hedge. I did the planting in past june, all went well, plants looked established and growing, but since couple weeks ago, I noticed that 3 of the plants are partly drying out and turning brown. I've attached pics, hopefully someone can tell me what went wrong.
I would have said exactly the opposite? From what I can see of the soil in photo #1, it looks bone dry.
Thanks for your reply, Chuck & Smivies. 6 boxwoods I planted, 3 had turned completely yellow/brown now, the other 3 doing very well, so I don't think it's caused by overwatering or underwatering. This might sound ridiculous but one of my neighbour told me the browning and drying of the boxwoods it's caused by dogs have pee on it. Is this true?
It could be. Otherwise, box are susceptible to root rot and often show signs of it. Many kinds of plants MUST have good drainage at all times to do well. Pathogenic water molds are widespread and important to plant cultivation efforts, causing significant losses.
I'm also wondering what's wrong with my boxwood. They are about 4 years old. Last summer one plant in the corner started getting tiny light lines in the leaves. By fall the leaves started turning orange. I let it go through the winter but in spring there was no improvement, so I ripped it out. Now the other plants are starting to do the same thing. Can anyone help before I lose them all?
All my 6 boxwoods are gone. They all had dried out one by one, had no idea why. Well, good luck with yours Cristim!
