Torrential rain here atm, my patio area is now a swimming pool. And the heavy stuff comes tomorrow!!!!!
@AlainK , I'll try to send some over to you Alain. Think our little island might float away tomorrow though... What a difference you are experiencing in France. It surely must break soon for you.
Thanks, but not too much please. Not sure, maybe next week, and anyway it won't be that much ("pluie sur 6 h" is "rain for 6 hrs") : Meteociel - Prévisions météo pour Orléans ( 45000 ) - Météo Orléans - Météo 45000
@AlainK , just read the link Alain, rather worrying tbh. Fingers are crossed for your trees, now and in the future !!!
Thanks D. My trees are still wedged up against the fence from the last storm. I was going to move them yesterday but after checking the weather I thought better of it. The rain is definitely on the way to Oxford!
Well upon waking I was expecting apocalyptic weather, but low and behold, rays of sunshine and blue sky. Went outside to take some morning photos and it was so very still. The calm before the storm as they say !!! Within the last 30 minutes the clouds are now covering the sky and it so very dark and foreboding, but no wind whatsoever!!!!!
Now the heavens have opened. Trying to blow some your way Alain @AlainK. Wind getting stronger by the minute.
Strong winds atm, but this just in from the Met office, 'so not too unusual'. But try telling this to my right angle trees !!! Forecasters said the winds were "unusual" for August, but would have to go some way to beat the current record wind gust speed of 87mph recorded at The Needles on the Isle of Wight in August 1996.
Hello, send a little freshness and water to the south, which does not drop below 37º to 38º around here, and hot sun.
@zfrittz good evening J, I wish I could. Still blowing very strong here. Your 38° C is better than the 45 ° C you had, but still 'phew' !!!!
The temperature has already dropped a little, and next week it is announced that they will drop to 29º to 30º, around here there are still no signs of the second outbreak, other years it has started in mid-September.
@zfrittz, that is so much better J, some welcome relief at last. Just been reading that temperatures will continue to climb in scientific predictions to 2022. Perhaps our thoughts on gardening will have to change!!!!???
Summer has returned here in Southern England. A beautiful sunny day. Went out to see what damage was caused and tbh 'not too bad'. A few branches from large trees near me were down, but this was expected as they were so heavy in leaf. How did everyone else fare ???
Weather forecast just in for the UK. A 'heatwave' coming from the Azores for September. Could be a late Autumn show this year!!!
Took these photos of some storm Francis damage whilst out walking near our house earlier. Lovely old Qurcus robur 'English Oak' with limbs gone. Lots of other debris around from trees, so a lot of Autumn colour gone.
Good morning. The winds have finally died down here after the storm. No broken branches but one of my shade trees is sitting in a strange angle now and a lot of the fresh growth on my maples has shriveled up. Oh well.
@MapleMO, good morning M, so sorry to hear about your new growth, everywhere was making some lovely colours. At least you you had no major damage and things have calmed down now. Hopefully that is it for a while a across Europe and the UK. Looking at the news, the US has a major hurricane approaching, at least we don't have that. My thoughts are with them !!! The last one we had was 1987 and that was scary. Busiest night shift of my career!!! Hope you have a calmer day M.
Just read this. Hurricane Laura makes landfall in southwestern Louisiana near Texas There is always someone else worse off !!!!
