I'm going to quit complaining. That is dreadful what you're experiencing there.

The truth is that little by little we are destroying the planet and with each passing year we are getting worse.

Well it’s 32 Celsius on my deck at 5:30pm and the smoke has overtaken the city. I live in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada. Which is a 15 minute drive to downtown Vancouver so I’m in the greater Vancouver area and very much a city but the fires many miles away have really done a number on our province. It’s nothing compared to Keith in Anglemont BC but he’s actually closer to the fires than me, by a lot. Be well everyone in these changing times, whether it be fire or flood. In these pictures from my front yard tonight you can usually see the Alex Fraser bridge, many more buildings and the Fraser River. Tonight not so much.

Indeed that is smoke out there

There is a webcam in a vineyard nr our Okanagan place and it confirms we can’t see across the lake barely one mile - looking west

Naramata - Boulder Beach Vineyard - Castanet Web Cams

It’s discouraging to think it all might be gone - and I collected a few items I don’t want to lose but you can’t pack everything.

that said I don’t give up - we survived inferno 2003 by a change of wind direction (unfortunately other homes lost)

I do find humour in this cartoon - attached - we have to laugh about our situation

I hope I haven’t offended anyone who is scared. I understand. I find some relief in appreciation and especially thankful for crews from other countries including Mexico — and lots of crews & equipment from other BC communities. Thank you.

Black humour - I always feel a bit guilty laughing but it is funny. I didn't realize that your place may be in jeopardy too, Georgia. It must be so nerve-wracking; I hope not to be in that situation but who can be confident anymore that tragedy might not strike in their own neighbourhood. All the best.

I don't, as long as it isn't insulting for a community.

Among the best ones, the jokes in Eastern Europe at the time of cummunism. I remember some, like the ones from this book :

"Capitalism is the exploitation of man by man. Socialism is the opposite." Revolutionary Russia, 1891-1991

Black humour is often a way to laugh at adversity...

Yesterday was quite something here. Big lightning/thunderstorm late in the afternoon. I watched the lightning from the driveway and saw dozens of big strikes. Was worried about some of the close strikes on Crowfoot mountain, but then the rain started up. It only stopped a few minutes ago, so it should be a help for the forest fires. The smoke has gone for now, which is great, still heavy cloud cover and more rain in the forecast, which is definitely good. Lost our power for about three hours yesterday but that's quite usual here when we get these storms. Temperature now...a blistering 13.2ºC. Haven't seen it that low for months.

Here in the lower mainland of BC, below normal temps, fresh south westerly marine air flow coming in. Hard to imagine, this is my perfect summer weather.

Meanwhile, in beautiful downtown Anglemont...50.7º in late June.....13.2º in late August. Something is wrong with this picture.

Showers and rain today and tomorrow, and sadly the smoke is returning. The last two days have been quite clear. But at least the weather is favourable towards the fire fighting efforts.

Henri is now here. So far not too bad, a lot of rain and some wind, but not very strong.

Oboy, that doesn't sound any too good. Did your garden survive the 6.5" rainfall intact?

We've been very fortunate out here in B.C. since the cool weather and almost daily rain arrived. Forest fires have diminished significantly. Had that oppressive heat continued, I hate to think what sort of situation we could be in now.

Temperature here now is only 13.3ºC, which is way under the norm. But it looks like the sun is trying to peek through the clouds!

Read 'em and weep! Nanaimo is a city several miles to the south which gets significantly more rain than we do in Nanoose Bay. I'm going to ask for a cistern this year for Christmas.

Blue sky, blazing sun this afternoon : 31° C.

Fortunately, the nights are much cooler, so when I open all the windows after sunset, I can sleep.

Tomorrow should be about the same before more usual temps (25° C).

Similar here. After a couple of weeks of cool and cloudy (but no rain to speak of) we are having a few days of warm sunshine. (I must remember to water in the morning!)

Edit: Some pics in the afternoon sun...
