Hi, I found this plant in my orchard but I don't know what the plant name is. Grateful, if anyone can share any common name or formal name to me. Many thanks for your replies in advance. This plant has green leaves and small pink flowers (see attached picture) I got many small berries in purple-black colour. Its taste is quite bitter and sweet rather than sour.
Your replies are very helpful. I finally found the right name of it. My dad has given me some kind of the name in Thai language but not the exact name so I cannot find it in the internet or elsewhere. With your advice, I have some more clues to start my searching again. I finally found the right name which is The scientific name: Ardisia elliptica Thunb The common name: Shoebutton ardisia It's also in the wikipedia here.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ardisia_elliptica Again, many thanks to tipularia for your promptly response and to TonyR , you give me the big clue to further search on this plant. I do really appreciate both of your helps.
That's something new I've learned! It seems that both A. elliptica and A. solanacea occur wild in Thailand, and both have become weeds elsewhere in the tropics. They are fairly similar but I think you are right about your plant being A. elliptica. There are detailed descriptions of them in Flora of China Online.
Here's the link to Ardisia in the Flora of China. http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=102511 Seems there are 65 species in China alone, and 400-500 species altogether.
