What are these things on my plant? Are they bugs? How do I get rid of them? I also have little "fruit flys"(what look like) on another plant, how do I get rid of those? Can some one help me please
scale bugs - you can treat with a sytemic product or try using q-tips dipped in rubbing alcohol and dabbing them...make sure to get the r-a UNDER the scale cover as that's there to protect the bug. you can also spray the r-a on (easier to get under those covers). if you spray, make sure to cover the soil with plastic beforehand. the r-a itself won't harm the plant (it'll evaporate before any lasting damage is done), it will not evaporate as quickly if it lands on the soil, so you want to protect it and the roots. you'll need to treat again in a week or so and keep an eye out over the next few weeks for any stragglers. also check your other plants for them - and treat them if needed. if your other plants are clear of the scale bugs, i'd isolate this one so that they don't end up traveling. for the fungus gnats, let the soil dry out a bit (they like moist) and you can even scrape off the top layer to get rid of any eggs waiting to hatch.
