Can anybody help me? I just noticed some reddish brown patches on one of the apple trees I purchased from a local nursery operation a few weeks ago. The patches are an inch to an inch and a half long and where they occur the young bark has lifted off the inner green cambium layer sort of like a big blister. There is no fluid or anything under the bark and the cambium looks healthy and green. I thought of simply pruning off the branches where that problem exists, but also found a couple of patches on the main trunk below the first branches. Anybody have any idea what this could be? I'm also concerned that the problem could spread to other apple trees. Thanks for any help/advice.
