What will i do with my hybrid tea rose in Zone 5a ?

    The winters here are harsh during winter months, is there anyway possible to save my beautiful Tropicana Pink hybrid tea rose? i live in Newfoundland, around the capital st.johns. Please help.

    That's really cold. The idea is to protect the bud union. You do this by making a mount using soil, brought in from other parts of the garden (never dug from around the rose itself). At USDA 5a, you may need a mount as high as 8-12 inches. You can also use compost, or other mulching material - however, make sure that you do something to prevent the mulch from blowing away in strong wind.     Another threat to this rose would be late spring freezes that happen after new shoot start to push out. Looks as if you have a high maintenance plant for your area. There are a lot of cold hardy roses developed for Canadian winters that might be a better choice.
