Hi, new gardener here... We have recently moved into our new home, and are the lucky recipients of an over-established garden. We are in the process of cleaning out right now and need to identify a few plants to decide what gets to stay. This appears to be a Viburnum, but I cannot figure out which one. We have two of these (in different locations) and both were trees that have had the main trunk cut at base, but have regrown in various other large shoots. The height of one of these is approx. 6m. The spread is probably in the range of 3m. The white flowers are absolutely a draw for bees and wasps right now. They are a deciduous variety. This picture is taken from our 3rd floor, looking down on the larger tree. It is bunched together (and fighting) a some tall Hazel shoots (also trunk cut at base). The Hazel is terrible for allergies. Is this a Viburnum (which one) and which should I remove, the Hazel or the Viburnum?
Thanks! I have now confirmed that you are right, this is indeed cornus sanguinea. Brilliantly fast and helpful forum. Thanks again
