I should know this, however, what can I plant in the veggie garden, besides a 5 metre
fence, that are not a take-out snack by foraging deer? I thought established pole beans
and any plant from the night shade family?

Interesting question. Looking over this online list, it would appear not too much can be grown that is regular food veggies. Potatoes and onions are good to see on the list.

I have not had much experience with deer, but did have one come through and munch a path through my garden, consuming several branches of a plant laden with hot, hot peppers (Capsicum).

My grandparents had lots of deer around their property. They grew a "wall" of dill all the way around the garden. My grandfather was convinced that the overwhelming dill smell discouraged them from investigating further... Their dill plants were very mature and tall by the time I was old enough to hear the story. I'm not sure how true this is but they swore by it.

Great, I love dill, however I should have planted it weeks ago, as everything else is already up! I will try it next year, thank you!

You're welcome and good luck! I hope it works for you like it worked for them :)
